Christmas is one of my favourite times of year, if you hadn’t already guessed! I love a little Christmas tag to see how everyone else celebrates and this year I’ve found one from Claire over at Our Favourite Jar.
Without less further ado, here goes!
Where will you be celebrating Christmas this year?
We will be celebrating in our new home, just the two of us on Christmas day. I can’t wait, it’s going to be the first year in our new home with no driving Christmas day for a change! Boxing day we’ll then go back home and see our families. I’m sure we’ll also do a bit more driving to see others to but I’m back at work on the Friday so we haven’t planned too far in advance!
Who are you celebrating with?
Christmas day will be me and the fiance and then boxing day we’ll see others. Nice quiet Christmas day before the madness of boxing day.
Do you own any ugly Christmas jumpers?
Ugly ones, no, but I do own a couple of Christmas jumpers. Both of which have already been worn on a few occasions. I have more Christmas t shirts though and get quite a bit more wear out of these.
How do you spend Christmas Eve?
We haven’t really got a typical Christmas Eve so maybe this is the year to start…. I’m hopefully finishing work early so I’m thinking a night in watching films with a few beverages. Say hello to the Die Hard drinking game – VERY dangerous. I’m also going to make my fella a little stocking with a few random goodies that I may allow him to open at midnight…. We shall see!
When do you put up your Christmas decorations?
I would love to have put them up on the 1st December but he wasn’t so keen so we waited until the 12th. 9pm and we decided to get the tree and mulled wine out!!! I think we did a good job though. I came home from work the next day and he’d surprised me with all the outside lights in the picture above to.
Do you have a decorating theme?
Red and gold for us this year. Very traditional and I think it makes the room feel so warm and cosy!
Do you have a tree topper?
Yep, that angel sitting right up there! My nan and my mum have always had angels so it was always the only option for me.
What’s been your least favourite gift you’ve received?
I don’t think I’ve really ever had any bad gifts, people say socks and bath sets etc but I love these kind of gifts. I’ve had a few random gifts over the years though… My partner got me a clock once and when asked why he just said it was a random gift..
What would you like to find in your stocking this year?
I’m hoping for a few books and candles. Haven’t asked for any big presents really. I’d also love an activity or a date idea for me and the fella. I think that would be a pretty awesome gift! Time and memories are worth so much more than money.
When did you start buying gifts this year?
I’m one of those who starts buying in the January sales. I love a bargain and find that buying early helps to spread out the cost so much. I’ve had hardly any shopping to do this December because I had so much already.
Have you ever recycled a gift?
Yes, and I’m not ashamed of this either. If you receive something you don’t like or wont use but you know someone its perfect for then why not. Just make sure you don’t regift it to the same person!! Books are a great gift for this, a couple I’m gifting this year are ones that I’ve read.
What’s your favourite Christmas food?
There’s a few here… my absolute ultimate would be stollen. I can go through loads of the stuff if I have it in supply! I’m also partial to a good chunk of black forest gateaux or my Nan’s blackcurrant cheesecake.
Savoury wise it would have to be the pigs in blankets!!
What do you leave out for Santa?
As a child we always left out the traditional mince pie and glass of milk for Santa and then a couple of carrots for the reindeers. I’ve just got a bit emotional thinking we won’t be leaving anything out for Santa this year…
Have you ever been out carolling?
You know what, I don’t think I have. I’ve also never had any carollers knock on my door… Maybe I’ll have to find a group of friends and start a tradition for next year!
What do you usually have for Christmas dinner?
Very traditional turkey roast dinner. Since being with my partner we start this with a glass of Bucks Fizz and Prawn Cocktail for starters.
When do you open gifts?
Again, this is going to be different this year. At my Mum’s we’d open family presents around the breakfast table after eating and then probably one or two stocking presents from Santa. We’d then go to Church for the morning service, taking one gift with us. The rest would then wait till after Christmas dinner and mum and dad would always open theirs last. Presents use to last all day in our household! And not because we had loads but because we took it in turns and spread out over the day.
I’m not entirely sure what we’ll do this year… I’ll keep you updated!
How do you spend Boxing Day?
Normally I’m back at work early morning – I’m talking 6am. This year I have the day off so we’ll be travelling down to see both sets of parents for a second Christmas.
Describe a present you wanted badly as a child, but never received.
I actually can’t think of anything… Most of the time I didn’t want much. I can remember wanting a baby doll for ages and my parents saying I was too old but I’m sure I got it in the end.
Have you ever kissed anyone under the Mistletoe?
Nope, well I don’t think I have any way! Maybe I’ll have to pick some up from the shop!!!
What’s your favourite character from a Christmas themed movie, book or TV special?
I would have to say Buddy from Elf. He has Christmas spirit in bucketloads and how amazing would it be to have a friend just like him!
I’m also really loving Edgar the Dragon from the John Lewis adverts at the moment. You can’t deny he’s very cute!!
If you were Santa Claus, what treats would you want to be left out for you on Christmas Eve?
I’d probably stick with the mince pie but maybe mix it up with either a hot chocolate or a gin. Hot chocolate is one of the best things about this time of year!
What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
Elf, easy question! I also love The Holiday and Love Actually but these can be year round movies. Miracle on 64th Street would be a very close top runner as well.
Have you ever had a white Christmas?
I think so…. I have vivid memories of walking with my Mum in the snow and us rushing home for a hot chocolate. We then had a snowball fight outside the front of the house just as my Dad got home. I’m not sure if this was actually Christmas but it would have been close!
Where do you usually spend your holidays?
It’s normally at family homes, split between mine and my partners family. Looking forward to having our own little Christmas day this year.
What is your favourite Christmas song?
In the past I’d have said Merry Christmas Everyone but this year I’m leaning towards Driving Home for Christmas. I’ve started driving this year so it’s become more relevant. Stop the Cavalry is another favourite of mine but you never hear it on the radio unfortunately.
Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
I’m not a fan of this but my partner does like to. Because of this I’ve got him a couple of really little stocking filler type gifts that I’ll let him choose from.
Can you name all of Santa’s Reindeer? No Cheating!
Donnor, Blitzen, Cupid, Prancer, Dancer, Dasher and Rudolph!
I thought I could! On checking I forgot Vixen, maybe not.
What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?
I’m really looking forward to starting a few new traditions this year.
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
I’d love to say it was real, I really wanted to find one from a Christmas Tree farm this year but time got away with us. Maybe next year will be a real tree.
What is your favourite holiday treat/sweet food?
Well, I’ve already answered this… If I get another go I’d add mince pies 😉
Be honest, do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?
I love giving gifts and seeing the person’s reaction when they open it – provided they like it of course! I like to really spend time making or choosing the gifts I give. Hampers are one of my favourite type of gifts!
What is the best Christmas present you have ever received?
My partner got me a lovely locket one year which I still wear daily to this day. It’s like my little comfort blanket now and he can always tell when I’m nervous as I start playing with it.
What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
How amazing would it be to go to a warm lodge in the countryside with the snow falling and the fire burning. Yes, I’m talking about a movie Christmas I know!
Are you a pro wrapper or do you fail miserably?
I absolutely love wrapping, one year I even offered to run a gift wrap service at the department store that I worked at.. I don’t know if I’d go as far as calling myself a “pro wrapper” though.
Most memorable Christmas moment?
Probably the one I mentioned earlier and then I also have vivid memories of being sat around my Nan and Grandad’s table for Christmas Dinner.
What made you realise the truth about Santa?
I’m not really sure tbh. I know I’d stopped believing he was real and then one year I’d been told to tidy my room. I was being a usual child who doesn’t want to tidy up! Suddenly Santa appeared at my door and I just turned round saying ‘Dad, I know that’s you.’ He’d gone upstairs so I went to follow but no one was upstairs. I went to find mum and apparently Dad was at work and she didn’t know what I was talking about. This confused me massively and still to this day my mum and dad say it wasn’t them! I don’t fully believe them though…
What makes the holidays special for you?
For me it’s spending the time with family. As I’ve said before, it’s the time and memories that stick with you!
That brings an end to this festive tag! So from both of us it’s a very Merry Christmas!
